With costs of energy of the rise, like natural gas, it has been more important for consumers to save in this area. But what are some ways of conserving energy? There are certain methods that can be used even if your bill is within the realm of reason, which will save you money in the long run.

Step 1: It doesn’t hurt to ask around to see what other people do to save on their gas and electric bills.

Step 2: Flip the switch! Turn off the lights and other electrical appliances when they are not being used. This will save you up to hundreds of dollars every year.

Step 3: Call your electricity supplier to see if you can get an energy audit. If your usage is high enough, the company will pay to have the auditor examine your home and give you tips to be more efficient with your energy. Sometimes, consumers can even receive free light bulbs, faucet heads and rebates on new appliances, which saves a bundle!

Step 4: Use fluorescent bulbs whenever possible. They give a desirable light and use less energy than traditional bulbs, which will save you money on your electric bill. Some utility companies offer rebates on these types of light bulbs.

Step 5: Go to your water heater and lower the temperature by just a few degrees. It shouldn’t be any higher than 120 degrees Fahrenheit, as recommended by experts. This move will promote conservation of energy, and prevent the water users from being burned by scalding hot water.
