It is important to have proper lighting on your Jon boat especially for the reason of safety if using your boat at night. If other boaters are in your vicinity, they might collide with your boat if you are not seen in the darkness. Follow the steps below as to how to wire your boat.
Step 1: Become familiar with your boat’s wires on the connector. The brown wire goes to the tail or parking lights. Green generally connects to the right turn signal and stop light. Yellow will connect to the left turn signal and stop light. Finally, the white wire will connect to the common or chassis ground.
Step 2: Find and reach the tail light wiring in your boat. It generally can be accessed from the trunk or rear bumper.
Step 3: Ensuring that it is long enough, connect to the quick connect harness. It should reach the trailer connector.
Step 4: Hook up the parking lights. You can do this by connecting the test light’s clip end to a metal chassis ground. The ground must be clean for this to work. Then, turn on the headlight switch and probe wires with the test light until it goes and remains on. Connect this wire to the brown wire with the quick connector.
Step 5: Start the ignition and activate the right turn signal. Using the test light, connect the green wire to the wire that lights the test light. Then, repeat this process for the left turn signal and yellow wire.
Step 6: Connect the white wire to a meal chassis ground, again clean, with a sheet metal screw. It also can be attached to a ground wire.
Step 7: Turn on the boat and check lights to ensure they are up and running.
