How to Use Torrents

To understand how to use torrents, we must first know what they are.  Torrents are specialized files used in peer-to-peer networks.  This network communicates by running the P2P software.  Follow these steps to gain a full understanding of how to use torrents.

Step 1 - Choose torrent software: Choose which torrent program will best suit your needs.  Your choices are uTorrent, Azureus or BitTorrent among others. Research the programs to decide which one you will download to your computer.

Step 2 - Install torrent program: Follow the directions and prompts to download the program.

Step 3 - Search for torrents: Visit a torrent site and search for the file you want to download.  For example, ScrapeTorrent.  Other search engines like Google and Yahoo also can help you find torrent files.

Step 4 - Select torrent: Once you have made a decision, click “download this Torrent” prompt and you will then have to follow prompts from the browser as to what you want to do with the file.  Open the file using your torrent program.

Step 5 - Open torrent file: If the file won’t open, save it to a location where you will be able to find it easily.  Then, open the file from that location.

Step 6 - Download torrent: The file will then begin to download.  This could be timely.

Tips

• If you want to shut your computer down and the file still has not downloaded, exit the torrent program and turn off the machine.  Most torrent programs will continue the process when it is started up again.  If not, you should be able to restart the downloading process the next time you boot up the computer.
• Torrents are helpful in getting files to use for games and music.  Obtain files from Seeders, or those who share the entire file.  Leechers generally share only portions of the files, which can make the process challenging.
