How to Setup DNS BIND9 RNDC

You have the Linux program Bind9, and you want to know how to set up a DNS server name using that program. It’s not as complicated as it sounds. Follow the steps below to figure out how to do it, and have fun with your configuring.

Step 1: Server names like ns1.nixcraft.net can be used as a vanity DNS for theos.in domain. There are three things to be aware of: your real DNS server, the Vanity DNS and the IP address for both the real and vanity servers.

Step 2: For example, your real DNS server is ns1.nixcraft.net and your vanity DNS is ns1.theos.in. Your IP address for both is 202.54.1.20.

Step 3: Another example is DNS server ns2.nixcraft.net with a vanity DNS ns2.theos.in and the above listed IP address. It just takes a little tweaking, but it can be done with ease.

Tips

  • Instead of using ns1.nixcraft.net, you will use ns1.theos.in for the theos.in. Remember to replace the domain name and IPs according to your program.
