So, you have an older Microsoft DOS game you would like to play but the only program available to you is Windows Vista? Chances are, when you try to run the game you will get an error message.  What to do?  Follow these steps below and you should be able to play your game for hours of fun.

Step 1: Your error will likely tell you that the program does not support a full-screen mode.  This does not mean that you cannot play.  You just have some work to do.

Step 2: Find software for the program DOSbox and download it to your computer.  This program is considered to be a credible DOS emulator for any platform, such as Windows, Linux, Mac among others.

Step 3:
Once the download is complete, try running your game under the program.

Step 4: If this does not work, repeat Steps 2 and 3.  If you still cannot play your game, you might just have to find a similar more current game that runs with your current software on your computer.

Tips

  • Playing your game with the DOSBox will allow you to have support for older graphics like CGA and EGA, and you also can play it in a window when using on the Vista program.
