So, you have a Canon InkJet printer and you need to reset the Cli Chip? Not to worry. There is a protocol to take care of this situation. Follow the steps below to get your printer back to up and running, and get those documents looking good again.
Step 1: The original chip should be attached to its cartridge. You might need double-sided tape to get the chip to stick to the cartridge. With the cartridge inside the printer, press and hold reset/OK button for five seconds to reset.
Step 2: The “ink low” box will show. Print until the “ink has run out” dialog pops up. You will then click OK on your computer and continue the printing process. If the “ink low” comes back, repeat Steps 1 and 2.
Step 3: The once empty dialog box will show up. You will click yes to continue printing. Next, you will see a “not liable” box pop up. Click on yes to print. Continue printing until the “remaining level of ink” dialog shows on your computer screen. Click OK.
Step 4: Another box will show up. It will say “press and hold the Resume” or “press and hold the paper feed”. At this point, you will press and hold the “stop/reset” or “paper feed” button for five seconds.
Step 5: The “ink monitor” dialog will show and the printer should continue printing. If you get another dialog box for “press and hold the resume,” repeat Step 4.

Are you saying that a chip resetter is not necessary to reset a CLI chip?

Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for your reply. I’ll send this on to my friend, though I doubt he’ll have the confidence to carry it out.
I have a problem with step 1. The only thing I can think of that gets removed is the cover over the holes that you have to make larger to refill. Is the chip attached to that cover. If so, I fear he would have discarded it as I remember him showing me the kit and it had a new sticky piece of paper to replace the one that had to be removed.
Cheers,
Dan
