So, you have taken off your old wallpaper and you are stuck with the leftover glue on the wall. Need to know how to remove wallpaper paste? Your walls will appreciate the extra work you are putting in by looking a lot better with the extra care and attention. Read on to learn more…
Step 1: Surely you have friends or family who have had to take off wallpaper. Well, they had to also take off the glue. Find out how they did it and try that method. If you do not find this to be efficient, try the procedures listed below.
Step 2: Although easy, removing wallpaper paste is time-consuming and results in a mess. Take it one section at a time.
Step 3: Cover the floor in the section you will be working with plastic or towels you do not care for. This will give protection to the floor you will be working in. Have some extra towels handy for quick clean-up if you have a spill by accident.
Step 4: Grab a bucket and fill it with warm to hot water. The water cools quickly so make it as hot as you can handle without burning yourself. Add one tablespoon of liquid dish-washing detergent to the bucket. This will loosen glue from the wall.
Step 5: Get a sponge, and scrub the walls. If the glue is stubborn, use a scrub brush on the walls for better results. When the water cools, you will need to refill the bucket with hot water to ensure efficient results.
Step 6: When you are finished scrubbing the walls, empty your bucket of water and refill it again. Get a washcloth and wash your walls for a final touchup. This time, you are removing soapy water, not glue, so it should be easier. If your bucket water becomes too soapy, dump it out and refill it again. You can repeat this process as needed if the glue is taking its time in coming off.
Tips
- This job might not seem like fun, but it is a good investment of time because the fresh wallpaper or coat of paint that will go on your clean wall will have a nicer appearance than if you did not remove the paste.
