How to Remove a Broken Bolt

Sometimes bolts or screws tend to break off, and it can be difficult to remove that last little piece of metal. There are simpler ways to get this done that can be less frustrating. Follow these steps listed below to learn how to remove a broken bolt.

Step 2: Take a picture of the damage done with the broken bolt or screw.

Step 3: Get your tools and workspace ready. You will need patience for this project so you will want to be organized and know where everything is as you work. You’re not going to want to dig around for your tools.

Step 4: Get the screw extractor kit and find the drill bit size that you will need to have. These sizes tend to vary so not everyone will have the same size.

Step 5: Place the drill bit inside the chuck and begin to slowly drill with caution. Sometimes slower is better to avoid any mishaps. When you have a good depth inside the broken bolt, retract the drill and get your screw extractor set.

Step 6: Now, you will want to line up the screw extractor in the drilled hole and lightly begin to hammer, and then harder until the tool is lodged inside the hole. Do not hammer too hard.

Step 7: Using the wrench, turn counter-clockwise to loosen the bolt or screw. Then, take out the broken bolt and congratulate yourself, you have successful removed the broken bolt.
