You are calculating payroll for a military employee, or maybe you are in the military and want to make sure your paycheck is accurate. Is there a specific formula to use to determine your hours? Of course there is. Follow the steps below to learn how to read military time on a payroll.
Step 1: Open up Microsoft Excel, because this program works best for payroll as it uses spreadsheets and calculates columns automatically.
Step 2: Enter your start time in the military time format, i.e. 8 a.m. is 0800 hrs., etc. Do the same with your ending time.
Step 3: Figure out how much you make in one hour.
Step 4: Figure out how many hours you have worked by subtracting your start time from your end time. For instance, you started at 0800 hrs and ended at 1700 hrs (5 p.m.). That will give you nine hours.
Step 5: Multiple your hourly rate by the number of hours you have worked, and then subtract any deductions, i.e. taxes. The result will be your take-home pay or that for the employee you are writing the payroll for.
