Mezzanine floors are free-standing steel structures that are meant to maximize space by making use of unused headroom. The floors can be used for storage or office accommodation. If you are interested in installing this type of floor, take the following steps for a smooth process.

Step 1 - Obtain a Building Permit

You will need to get approval for a permit from the local authorities. Go to your local borough or township office to obtain the permit for the work to be done.

Step 2 - Get Estimates from Contractors

Get estimates from contractors for the work. If you plan to do it yourself, gather a list of the supplies you will need and make a run out to the supply store.

Step 3 - Select a Contractor

Hire the most reasonable contractor.

Step 4 - Prepare Work Area

Clear the area of any items that might get in the way. Heavy steelwork will be installed and safety will be needed, especially if a staff of workers will be doing the job.

Step 5 - Source a Forklift

Obtain a forklift. If you cannot get one, the contractor generally will provide one at an extra cost.

Step 6 - Pay Contractors Once Work is Complete

Complete the installation and pay the contractors, if hired.

Tips

  • Self-installation is not recommended. Leave this one to the experts.
  • Ensure your building is up to code before this work is done, since you will be obtaining a permit from local authorities.

Items Needed
