With the price of gasoline as high as it is today, popular alternatives are hybrid vehicles, carpooling and taking public transportation to work and town on the weekends. But what else can we do? There is the notion of using hydrogen for fuel. Follow the steps below to learn how to make hydrogen gas.
Step 1: Since hydrogen ultimately is consumed by a pollution-free chemical reaction in a fuel cell, it combines with oxygen to produce resources like electricity, water and waste heat. It is seen as very abundant and is found in water, fossil fuels, plants and animals. It can be obtained from water using electrolysis or splitting water molecules with electricity.
Step 2: The fuel cells typically are compatible with cold winters, such as in the state of Washington. It starts quickly and runs at moderate temperatures like 150 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 3: Hydrogen-powered vehicles are not limited by batteries. The determination is the amount of fuel in the storage tank. Recent developments for storage include carbon absorption, or refrigerated pressurized tanks that can store large amounts of hydrogen.
Warnings
- Hydrogen as gas or fuel is an up and coming technology and should be left to the experts. Civilians should not to create fuel out of hydrogen at their homes, because there is danger of possible explosions.
