If you’re interested in learning how to install glass mosaic floor tile, you should know that there’s no one perfect way to install it. You can use lose tiles to make mosaics you can design, or you can get glass tails meshed that are in squares from the manufacturer. Follow the steps below to determine how you will install your glass mosaic floor tiles, and good luck in the process.
Step 1: Clean any dirt, grease or other unwanted substance in the region you will be installing your tiles. For best results, use a sponge with water and detergent to get rid of any sticky residue. When you are finished cleaning the area, sand it lightly.
Step 2: Plan your design. You can lay tiles on a table or floor and rearrange them until you are satisfied. Use individual small tiles or use a glass nipper to cut shapes and sizes into the tiles.
Step 3: Cut glass tiles. You will place the tile inside a tile nipper. The place you want to cut should fall along the edge of the nippers. Squeeze down on the handle and the tile will then break. For safety, wear work gloves and eye goggles.
Step 4: When you have figured out the desired design, put your glass tiles on the wall. You can imitate the design on your table or floor as you pick up the tiles. Get your tile adhesive and apply it, using a paintbrush on the back of each tile. Also apply adhesive to the wall to ensure the tiles will bond. Adhesive dries quickly, so use it on a small area at a time.
Step 5: Use spacers or estimate the spaces between the tiles for a more free-form look. When the glass tiles are placed on the wall, allow them to dry for a full 24 hours. Use adhesive tape to make sure they stay in place.
Step 6: When the adhesives are dry, the grouting process can begin. Remove adhesive tape. Get a hand trowel to apply the grout and make sure to get spaces between the tiles. Try to avoid bubbling, because that can mean the space does not have enough grout.
Step 7: Wipe the tiles with a damp sponge. Don’t let the grout dry on the tiles because it will be difficult to get off. Clean until the tiles do not have any smudges or dirt.
