There are not many things worse than buying a new, expensive sweater and after the first wash, the fresh appearance has gone away. Pilling causes the worn look that appears on sweaters, especially cashmere, with symptoms such as fuzzy balls or bits of fluff that show on the surface. So how do you get rid of pilling on cashmere sweaters? Read the following tips to find out how to prevent pilling from happening on your high-quality clothing.
Step 1: Get together with your girlfriends and talk about how everyone keeps their sweaters looking fresh. Try different techniques and figure out which way seems to be the most efficient, and stick with that. If nothing seems to stop the pilling, read on.
Step 2: Instead of throwing your sweater into the washing machine, try washing it by hand. This especially goes for sweaters with loose textures, applied embellishments or openwork patterns. Sweaters that are machine washable should still be turned inside out before being put into the machine.
Step 3: Get an electric piller/fabric shaver. These devices generally run on batteries or can be plugged into an electrical outlet in the wall. They should not be used on knits containing naps, textures or lofty surfaces. If you have snags or loose yarn ends, fix with a knit picker, or a hook-like tool that draws yarn from the outside of the garment to the inside. They can be found in sewing shops.
Tips
