- Algae spores are found everywhere, and can also be inside your aquarium, even if new. Spores will tend to grow if there is plenty of light and nutrients- considered the right conditions.
- Soak new plants in a solution of one part bleach to 20 parts water. Dip the plant in the solution for about two minutes and rinse. Dip the plant in water that is treated with a dechlorinator. This will neutralize remaining bleach before you add your plant to the tank.
