Searching for information on how to connect to a recovery machine? Also, what exactly is a recovery machine? These devices are used in automotive air conditioning systems and used in conjunction with recycling equipment, they must be approved by Underwriters Laboratories to ensure safety. Using them requires a connection process. Simply follow the steps below to learn how.
Step 1 - Connect Recovery Machine Hoses
Connect hoses on the machine to the service fitting, which can be found on the vehicle. Turn on the unit, using instructions from the equipment manufacturer.
Step 2 - Pull Refrigerant From System
Let the machine continue to pull refrigerant from the system until it lets you know it all has been recovered. If the machine does not have a timer or shut-off, discontinue recover after five minutes, close and disconnect the service hoses.
Step 3 - Replace Oil
Once recovery is done, figure out how much oil was pulled out with the refrigerant because it will need to be replaced once the system is recharged. Recycling will begin after the recovery process is finished.
Tips
- Most recovery machines use single-pass recycling. This is when the refrigerant makes one pass through the cleaning circuit. There is also multi-pass recycling or a choice between the two. Multi-pass takes longer but might be needed if the refrigerant has a lot of moisture.
- If your A/C components show ice during the recovery, you can heat them to allow refrigerant flow. Use hot air blow dryers, but never an open flame.
